Tourism and Culture Initiatives Online Global Registry

The Online Global Registry is a joint research initiative conducted by researchers from leading academic institutions across the world.

Its goals are to:

  • Develop and disseminate knowledge in the field of tourism and culture synergies.
  • Enhance awareness and visibility for tourism and culture initiatives conducted by local and regional destination stakeholders.

Our definition of tourism and culture is very broad. It encompasses, amongst others, traditional festivals, commemorative celebrations, events highlighting tangible or intangible heritage, aboriginal traditions, religious holidays, etc.

Scientific committee members are researchers from the following academic institutions: *CETT-Estudis d’Hoteleria I Turisme (Spain); *George Washington University (United States of America); Guangzhou University (China); Ryerson University (Canada); *Universidad de Las Palmas (Spain); Université Caddi Ayyad (Morocco); Université de Douala (Cameroun); *Université du Québec à Montréal (Canada); University of Jammu (India).

Coordination: *Université du Québec à Montréal and *World Centre of Excellence for Destinations.

The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) recently organized four joint world conferences on tourism and culture and published summary declarations of each conference:

- 2015 Siem Reap Declaration on Tourism and Culture – Building a New Partnership Model
- 2017 Muscat Declaration on Tourism and Culture: Fostering Sustainable Development
- 2018 Istanbul Declaration on Tourism and Culture: For the Benefit of All
- 2019 Kyoto Declaration on Tourism and Culture: Investing in Future Generations

The declarations identified over 80 actions to enhance tourism and culture synergies. These actions have been sorted into 18 key areas. For each key area listed below, indicate the level it is incorporated into your initiative (1=very low; 5=very high). Skip areas that are not applicable.
